"Kaw gay gaw bo we’s Band...originated from the mouth of the Thornapple River. Sometime around
1841 this band split off from Ne be nay ke zhick’s band and purchased their own lands in
section one of Ada Township, Kent County a few miles east of Ne be nay ke zhick’s band. On
the 1846 annuity roll they were listed as a separate band which was called the Forks of
Thornapple band while Ne be nay ke zhick’s band was called Forks of Thornapple. Kaw gay
gaw bo we’s band had a population of 55 in 1849 and 90 in 1855. He was the chief of this band
into the 1870s. Kaw gay gaw bo we and some of his band members took their allotments in Custer
Township, (T18NR16W) Mason County, while most of the members settled in Elbridge
Township near Ne be nay ke zhick’s band."
