SIAMESE TWINS EQUALLED

Remarkable Birth of Twins at Clare Sunday

Just 100 years ago a pair of twin boys were born in Siam so organilcally joined that they were physically inserparable trhough life, for they lived to the ago of over 60 years, and married. So remarkable was the case that it attracted world wide attention and showmen reaped fortunes by exhibiting the "Siamese Twins."

A no less astonishing case, physically speaking, occurred at Clare Shuday morning, and only ignorance of the adult members of the househould and their failure to call a physician until too late preented what would undoubtedly have been a rival of the famous Siamese case.

Dr. J. A. Reeder was called Sunday morning to attend an Indian woman living sever miles southwest of Clare. He found it necesary to reosrt to the Caesarian operation, and the woman was removed to the home of Mrs. Jos. Presley, the nurse, in Clare, for that purpose. This is the first time, we understand, that this delicate operation has taken place in this part of the state. It was very successfully accomplished, Dr. Reeder being assisted by Drs. Maynard and Sanford, but the case had been too long neglected, and the mother and twin babies did not survive. The conditions were such that undoubtedly the result would have been quite different had the physican bee called two or three days earlier.

The babies were perfectly formed, of normal development, but were connected laterally for about half the length of their bodies, making it a very rare case in surgical history.
