Edward Hall 1875-1940

Edward Hall was said to be born 8 Apr 1875, son of  Tay-baw-se-ke-zhick-way-um/Joseph Hall and Katherine. [Date from WWI draft registration.] He was the youngest of their known children.

Riverton Indian Church Registry shows a child of Joseph Hall and Katherine, living in Eden, baptized in 1875.

Son Joseph was said to be born in 1894

Son Paul was born about 10 Oct 1897 (from his death certificate.)

Wife Mary died 10 Oct 1897 at age 24 years, 9 months, 11 days in Custer, Mason, Michigan. She has two children, both living. Occupation was laborer's wife. Parents were Joseph and Mary Mawby. Burial at Eden Cemetery. Cause was pueperal fever, secondary cause confinement on child bed.

Son Paul died 8 Apr 1898 in Eden, Mason, Michigan, at the age of six months. Cause of death was lung fever.

Riverton Indian Church Registry has Paul and Joe (twins) baptized 17 May 1898. Children of Eddie and Mary Hall of Custer. [This is after Paul's death, typo on index?].

Edward married 9 May 1904 in Ludington to Martha Bailey. Eddie was 28, son of George Hall and Elizabeth Green, born in Custer, occupation laborer. It was his second marriage. Martha was 19, born in Fern, occupation dressmaker. It was her first marriage. Ceremony was performed by Henry C. Ransom, Judge of Probate. Witnesses were P.E. Bailey and A.B. Major.

Son Milo was born 15 Dec 1904, Mason county. Birth record not found.

Daughter Sarah was born 28 Feb 1907 in Homestead, Benzie county

The Great War touched everyone.

Edward registered for the draft on 12 Sep 1918. He gave his birth as 8 Apr 1875. His occupation was cutting cordwood for Hackley Phelps Bonnell Company. He was described as tall, stout, with brown eyes and dark hair.

Son Louis registered for the draft 16 Oct 1940. He gave his birth as 1 Feb 1914 in Le Roy, Michigan. He was described as 5'4", 158 lbs., brown eyes, dark hair, dark brown complexion.

Milo enlisted in the Army on 1 Apr 1941

Son John registered for the draft on 30 Jun 1942. He gave his birth at 2 Jun 1923. He was described as 5 foot 5 inches, 165 pounds, dark complexion, black eyes and hair.

Louis enlisted 5 Dec 1942 in Milwaukee, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Son Louis Richard died 5 Feb 1944 in Nettuno, Roma, Lazio, Italy and is buried at the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery and Memorial.

Daughter Ruth (who had married Clarence Feldman) contacted the National Jewish Welfare Board regarding her brother Louis's death.

Son Milo died 6 Nov 1969 in Cadillac, Wexford, Michigan, under the name Milo Smith. His obituary appeared in the Lansing State Journal 10 Nov 1969

Milo was buried at Champion Hill Cemetery in Honor, Benzie, Michigan

Mitchell Assineway 1855-1927

 Mitchell Assineway (also called Michael in some records) was said to be born on 23 May 1855 (10 Jun 1855 on his death record), the son of Simon Aw-se-ne-way and Sophia Agwemigisik. 

Simon and family were members of the L'Arbre Croche band, led by Chief Nay-o-ge-maw. The population of the band in 1855 was 185 persons.

Mitchell's father, Simon, had chosen the W1/2 of the NW 1/4 of section 33, township 37, range 6, consisting of 80 acres as his 1855 treaty land allotment. He received the patent in 1872.

Son Jasper (under the name Gervasius) was born 13 Apr 1879 in Cross Village.

In 1879 Mitchell paid taxes on two pieces of land.

I believe that Julius and Julia were the same person.

Son Stephen was said to be born 20 Aug 1895. [From his birth]

Son Samuel was born 21 Jan 1899. Since his birth wasn't recorded at the county until 15 May 1900 and he is only 4 months old on the 1900 census, Samuel was most likely born 21 Jan 1900.

Mother Sophia died 26 Jun 1910 from pneumonia. Her age was given as 80, parents as Peter Pagonish and Hattie Shubring.

Son Stephen died 19 Apr 1913. His age was given as 18.

Son Jasper died 29 Jun 1913 at age 32. Cause of death was pneumonia.

On 5 Jun 1917, son Thomas registered for the draft. He gave his birth date as 28 Apr 1894, and was described as tall and stout with black hair and eyes. Thomas was employed by the Cadillac Handle Company as a woodsman.

Son Joseph registered for the draft on 2 Sep 1918. He gave his birth as 1 Nov 1899, occupation as farming for his father. Joseph was described as tall, medium build, black hair and eyes, "one hand with only two fingers, web fingers." 

Son Thomas was married on 28 Jul 1919 to Mary Francis, daughter of Joseph and Sarah. Ceremony was performed by Rev. D. Philip, pastor of Good Hart Catholic Church. Witnesses were Daniel Kenosha and Cecelia Warren.

Wife Anastasia did 10 Jan 1926 at the age of 68.

Mitchell died 2 Jun 1927. There is no death date given and while the doctor says he last saw Mitchell alive on 16 Apr 1927, burial wasn't until 6 Jun 1927. Plus adding 71 years, 11 months, 23 days to the given birth date of 10 Jun 1855 gives 2 Jun 1927.
