Jonas McSauby was born 20 Jul 1873 in Charlevoix township, Charlevoix, Michigan, the son of George Ashkebug and Mary Maksaba (many spellings).
His parents Andrew G. Ashkebug, 37, and Mary Micksawba, 36, were married on 13 Mar 1876 in Charlevoix. Ceremony was performed by John S. Dixon, Justice of the Peace. Witnesses were Louis Micksawba and Joseph R. Dixon.
By 1880 his father George moved to Northport to live with sister Margaret and her husband John Agatchie. Mary and her sons remained in Charlevoix and used McSauby as their surname.

26 Feb 1891 depostition of Louis Micksawboy. Louis, 77, states he was present when Mary was married to George Estabrook as Andrew G. Ashkebug on Mary 13 A.D. 1870. That she hasn't remarried. There were three children born to Mary Micksawba Estabrook and George Estabrook as follows John Estabrook was born Jun 10 A.D. 1874 and Jonah Estabrook was born in July 20 A.D. 1880. One died at child birth no name.

This was Jannett's second marriage and Jonas' first. Ceremony was performed by W. H. Collins, Justice of the Peace. Witnesses were Isaiah Wasaquam and T. Wasaquam.

Son Julius died 9 Feb 1918 in Friendship township, Emmet, Michigan. His birth was given as 27 Feb 1907 in Bayshore. Cause of death unknown - no physician called. Parents were Jonas McSaubia and Hattie Gibson. Burial was in Middle Village. Informant was Mrs. McSaubia of Good Hart.
A second death certificate for Julius says he died 9 Feb 1918 in Readmond township, Emmet, Michigan. His age and birthdate remained the same. Parents were Julius Gibson and Hattie Gibson. Cause of death was pulmonary tuberculosis. Burial was in Goodhart. Informant was Mrs. Hattie Gibson of Goodhart.
On 12 Sep 1918 Jonas registered for the draft. He gave his birthdate as 20 Jul 1873, occupation as laborer for the East Jordan Furnace Company, nearest relative as Jenette McSawby. Jonas was described as medium height and build with brown eyes and black hair.
