Sarah Wain-daw-bun-o-quay Henry 1863-1931



Wain-daw-bun-o-quay / Sarah David was said to be born 2 Jun 1863 in Gaines, Genesee, Michigan. Her parents were Abraham/Abram David and Julia/Caw-bay-aw-no-quay Fisher. Her parents are said to have married on 25 Sep 1852 in Isabella county. After her parents separated, her mother Julia was said to have married Jotham Stevens on 27 Sep 1867 in Gaines, Saginaw, Michigan. [It is possible that Jotham was Sarah's father.]

Sister Mary Jane David was said born 12 Nov 1860

Step-father, Jotham enlisted 8 May 1863 in Company L, 8th Michigan Cavalry. He transferred to Company H, 8th Michigan Cavalry, and on 15 Jan 1864 transferred to the US Volunteers.

Both Sarah and Mary Jane are said to have used step-father Jotham Stevens' last name after their mother's marriage in 1867. 

Brother Franklin Stevens was said to be born 1 Jul 1871 in Oregon, Lapeer, Michigan

Chatfield of Gaines, Genesee County, Michigan one of the three only surviving heirs of Elizabeth David deceased, for the sum of $100 dollars, the west one third of the west one quarter of south one half of south east one quarter of north east one quarter of section nine, town six (6) north of range five (5) east containing one and two thirds (1 2/3) acres of land more or less.

On 6 Oct 1902 sons Delhart, 16, and Sampson, 13, were admitted to Mount Pleasant Indian Industrial Boarding School by Peter Henry of Fergus. The boys were listed as 3/4 blood Chippewa. Remarks says they "ran away."



Son Delbert died 15 Dec 1906. His birth was given as 19 Jul 1885, parents as Peter Henry and Sarah Stevens. His occupation was laborer, cause of death nephritis, burial in St. Charles. 


Step-father Jothem Goodale Stevens died 26 Jun 1908. His birth was given as 22 Jan 1835, his parents as Lyman Stevens and Sally Turberry. Cause of death no physician called, burial at Albee Cemetery. Informant was Sarah Henry of St. Charles.

Sarah was divorced from Peter Henry on 21 Sep 1910 for extreme cruelty. She states they were married 6 Nov 1883 and have 4 children.



Son Miner Stevens, 36, son of General and Sarah Stevens, was married to Jennie Nelson, 40, on 5 Jan 1918 in Saginaw. Her parents were not given. It was his first marriage and her second.

The 1930-1931 Register of Pupils of the Mount Pleasant Indian School says Glendora was admitted on 5 Dec 1929, by father Arthur Henry of Pinconning. She was age 10, and 1/2 Chippewa.




Son Sam died 2 Feb 1930 in St. Charles. His birth was given as 15 Nov 1890, spouse as Eva, occupation as mason. His parents were given as Peter Henry and Sarah Stevens. Cause of death was pneumonia lobylar. Burial was in St. Charles.

Granddaughter Glendora was listed on the 1931-1932 Register of Pupils at Mount Pleasant Indian School. Her parent was Arthur Henry of Pinconning. Her age was 11, and she was 1/2 Chippewa.
