John Pedwadum


Pe-taway-wo-tung, later called John Pedwadum, was said to be born in Jan 1834 in Michigan. John's death certificate indentifies his parents as Mitchel Ostaywa and Mary; while the Durant Roll Field Notes give his mother as Pe-nay-se-wow-no-quay. 

John Bidwewidam of Eagleton married Sophia Wabinagokwe, also of Eagleton, on 20 Nov 1855 at the Catholic Church in Eagletown.

On 24 Mar 1868 John Petnawedon bought the SW 1/4 of the SE 1/4 of section 10, township 30 north, range 11 west containing 40 acres, for $20, from Seth Moff.

On 26 Jun 1872, John received the patent for the land from the 1855 allotment

Daughter Theresa was born 4 Oct 1876, baptized 28 Oct 1876 at Immaculate Conception Church in Eagletown.




Daughter Louisa was born 20 Dec 1878 [From her death certificate, but claims Margaret was her mother.]

Wife Sophia died 16 Sep 1879 as recorded at Immaculate Conception Church in Eagletown.

Daughter Louisa died 5 Nov 1913 in Suttons Bay, Leelanau, Michigan. Her birth was given as 20 Dec 1878, age as 34 years, 10 months, 17 days. Her parents were given as John Petwadium and Maggie Francis. Cause of death was chorea ins----, burial in Peshawbestown. Informant was John Petwadium.


John died 5 Jul 1918 in Suttons Bay, Leelanau, Michigan. His age was given as 84, birth as Jan 1834, parents as Mitchel Ostaywa and Mary. Cause of death was gangrene of feet, burial in Peshawbestown. Informant was Andrew Petawaytum.
