Delia Violet James

Delia was born 7 Jun 1902 in Lake Ann, Benzie, Michigan. She was the daughter of Levi James and Mary Schocko.

The 1910 Federal Census - Solon, Leelanau, Michigan
Levi James, 30, married once - 9 years, laborer at odd jobs, went to school at Haskel, Kansas for 3 years;
Mary, 27, married once - 9 years, 3 children born, 1 child living, went to school at Mount Pleasant, Michigan for 3 years;
Deali, age 8. The family is listed as boarders in the home of Mary Blacksmith and her children.


On 18 May 1915, Mary Shocko James, 30, married John Agosa, 48 in Northport. Her parents were given as Andrew Schocko and Nancy. John's parents were Albert Agosa and Charlotte. It was his first marriage and her second. Ceremony was performed by A. A. Allington, Minister of the Gospel.


Sister Susan Agosa was born 12 Jul 1915.

Delia, 18, married Dennis Wayashe, 22,  on 28 Jul 1919 in Newberry, Luce, Michigan. Her parents were given as Levi James and unknown. His parents were Frank Wayashe and unknown. Ceremony was performed by Bernard Muhaney, Justice of the Peace. Witnesses were Levi James and George Koon.


The 1920 Federal census has Dennis living in Echo township, Antrim county, age 21, boarder with John and Anna Redbird. Dennis was a laborer in the wood camp. He was listed as married, but Delia was not with him.


Instead Delia was living with her mother and stepfather.

Mother, Mary Agosa died 8 Apr 1920 in Leelanau.


Delia and Dennis were the parents of the following children:

Son Earl Henry, born 8 May 1920 in Leelanau County, died 31 Jan 1921 in Leelanau township, Leelanau county. Cause of death was enterocolitis. Burial was at Onominese.



Daughter Florence M. was born 7 Sep 1922 and died 14 Feb 1923 in Chestonia, Antrim county. Cause of death was capillary bronchitis. Burial was in Mancelona.


Daughter Abbie was born 30 Dec 1923 in Walton, Grand Traverse county.

Son Johnson later called John Erick, was born 30 May 1925.

Delia and Dennis parted.


Delia and Albert Thomas Anderson, son of Edward Anderson and Theresa Roundsky had the following children:

Daughter Rosie was born 1 Jul 1926 in Elk Rapids. Sadly, baby Rosie died 25 Jul 1926 at the age of 24 days. She was buried in Kewadin.


Son Thomas Jr. was born 10 Oct 1927 and died 18 Jan 1928 in Elk Rapids, Antrim, of malnutrition. He was buried in Kewadin.


Daughter Abbie Wayashe died on 8 Jul 1928 in Elk Rapids, Antrim county. She was 4 years 4 months 9 days. Burial was in Elk Rapids. 


Delia and Thomas Anderson were married on 16 Nov 1929 in Elk Rapids, Antrim county. The marriage license was from Grand Traverse county.


The 1930 Federal census of Elk Rapids, Antrim county describes the family as:

Anderson, Thomas, head, 25, first marriage at 25, b. Michigan, mixed blood, Ottawa, lineman at the Electric Company;

Anderson, Delia, wife, 27, first marriage at 17, b. Michigan, mixed blood, Ottawa; Anderson,

Johnson, step-son, 4 years 11 months, b. Michigan, mixed blood, Ottawa.


Husband Albert Thomas Anderson died 24 Dec 1933 in Acme, Grand Traverse, Michigan. He had been struck by a car. Burial was in Kewadin.


Son Chester was born on 19 Sep 1934.

Delia married Julius Kenoshmeg on 25 Nov 1935 in Emmet county.

Son Wallace John Kenoshmeg was born 22 Mar 1936 in Good Hart, Emmet county. Sadly he died 10 Oct 1936 in Readmond, Emmet county. Cause of death was enterocolitis. Burial was in Middle Village.


Delia was married to Silas Beaver on 14 Nov 1936 in Elk Rapids. Her age was given as 34, and she stated she was married twice before. His age was given as 36, son of Frank Beaver and Julia Thompson, and this was his first marriage.


Delia and Silas were the parents of one daughter, Mary.



Delia's father, Levi James, died 30 May 1952 and was buried in the Kewadin Indian Mission Cemetery, Kewadin, Antrim county.



Silas died 9 Apr 1964 in Alcona and was buried in the Chippewa Indian Cemetery, Oscoda, Iosco county.



Delia was lastly married to Robert Smith, son of William K. Smith and Mary Russett, in 1967

Delia died 8 Sep 1968 in Traverse City, Grand Traverse county. She was buried in the Indian Cemetery in Kewadin, Antrim county.
