  1. Re: marriage of Lucy Keshata to Frank McSawby Closest I have found was on a list of abstracts of Native Marriages in Leelanau County Michigan posted online. I did not record the source:

Since Louis Kashata sometimes used his father Jean Baptiste's family name "Trotochaud" --- with a great number of variations of spelling, Lucy "Tershot" probably refers to Lucy Trotochaud daughter of Louis Trotochaud.
A reference to this marriage should be found in the microfilmed records of the Catholic mission in Peshawbestown, in addition to the Leelanau County records.

  2. I believe Louis was also referred to in the following record: A Warranty Deed dated 10 November 1880 lists Lucy Wasageshick of Emmet County Michigan signing a sworn statement in deed on file in Emmet County Register of Deeds p. 445. She, along with Lewis Trotasho of Antrim County, John B Trotosho and Angeline Naugonsey of Leelanau County, and Theresa Peshaba of Emmet County, described themselves as the sole surviving heirs of John B. Trotasho deceased, late of Emmet County.
--- The list of heirs and their places of residence closely correspond to the list of heirs of "Tro-to-chow" in the Durant Roll Field notes of 1908.
The statement of Lucy, Louis, Angeline, John B Jr and Theresa that they were the only heirs of their father John B Sr. was not correct, as their half-sister Catherine Trotochaud Boucher was alive and well and living in the U.P. Catherine had apparently been out of touch with John B.'s other children for many years.

  3. Those Indians had a Hard time with the name Trotochaud , and they corrupted it in every mispelling , and pronunciation, and made it rather hard to do research(Trosho,Trotochow,Tershot,Trotsho)!

  4. I am doing research on my family and I have ran into a road block. Jean Baptiste Trotochaud was my 4th great grandfather. Before he was married to Sophia Anaquet/Anakoite he was married to another Indian woman by the name of from what I have found was Angelique/Angelica Jans??? They had a daughter Catherine Julia (Yow-As-O-Quay) Trotochaud who was given up at the approx. age of 5 to the Biddle's on Mackinac Island where she was raised. I am looking for any information at all on Catherines mother. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
