Andrew Hinman was said to be born 12 Nov 1887, possibly in Bass River area of Ottawa county. He was the son of Wallace Foster Hinman and Margaret Peters.

On 25 Apr 1897 Andrew was admitted to Mount Pleasant Indian Industrial Boarding School. His father was Wallace, both parents were living, he was from Hamilton, age 9, student #118.
Andrew's father, Wallace, died 12 Jan 1898 in Heath township, Allegan county. Cause of death was lobar pneumonia. Wallace was age 60, parents unknown.
On 12 Nov 1898 Andrew was admitted to Mount Pleasant Indian Industrial Boarding School. Father was listed as Mrs. Maggie-Wallace, only mother was living, he was from Hamilton, age 11, student #118.
Andrew Hinman, son of Wallace Hinman and Maggie Holliday, married Clara Edan [Eaton], daughter of Sampson Edan and Sarah Tuphschn on 25 May 1908 in Honor. Ceremony performed by Wesley Covey, Justice of the Peace.
Clara was said to be born 15 May 1892 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Samuel Eaton and Sarah Shebeshequay.
Son David Charles was born 23 Mar 1908 (While other records give his birth as 1909 the year 1908 is correct per the "Supplemental Roll, of children born since March 4, 1907, and prior to August 1, 1908, to members of the Ottawa and Chippewa Tribe of Indians of the State of Michigan, Prepared by Horace B. Durant, Special Agent, under instructions of the Commissioner of Indian Affairs dated July 22, 1908.")

Andrew registered for the draft on 5 Jun 1917 in Menominee county. He gave his birth as 12 Nov 1886 in Bass River, Michigan, said he was a farmer in Harris, Michigan, married with one child, and gave his race as Indian. He was described as medium height and build, with brown eyes and dark hair. His eye sight was said to be poor.
Andrew died 27 Aug 1918 in Mancelona, Antrim, Michigan. Cause of death was dropsy caused by valvuler disease of the heart. Birth was given as 12 Nov 1887 in Ottawa county; parents as Wallace Hinman and Margaret Peters; burial in Mancelona.

On 25 Feb 1921 David, age 12, and Clifford, age 9, were admitted to Mount Pleasant Indian School. Parent was listed as Clara Wabinento of 129 S. Water St., Muskegon.

Marriage is recorded in Grand Traverse county liber 5 page 7 as taking place in 1933.Clara died 18 Mar 1939 of pneumonia. Her birth was given as 15 May 1892, father as Sam Eaton, mother unknown. Burial was at Yuba cemetery.

On 16 Oct 1940 David registered for the draft in Acme, Grand Traverse, Michigan. He gave his date of birth as 22 Mar 1909 in Benzie county. He was described at 5 foot 7 inches, 175 pounds, black eyes and hair, dark complexion.
Clifford also registered for the draft on 16 Oct 1940 in Acme, Grand Traverse, Michigan. He gave his birth as 2 Oct 1912 in Benzie county. He was described as 5 foot 9 inches, 155 pounds, black hair and eyes, dark brown complexion.
On 29 Apr 1941 David enlisted in the army at Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Hero of 3 Years' Combat Killed By Freight Train
A beribboned veteran of three years' combat in South Pacific was dead today, the victim of injuries suffered when he was run over by a Chicago & Norh Western freight train.
David Hinman, 36, an Indian from Williamsburg, Mich,was struck by the train as it backed onto a siding near the Hoskin Coal Co, 441 N Water st., last night. Hinman was released on May 5 at Fort Sheridan after serving as a technical sergeant. He received decorations for campaings at Leyte and on New Guinea.
Charles Gielow, 500 N. State st, a watchman at the coal company, said he called to the veteran, but that he walked straight into the train's path.

DISCHARGED VET KILLED ENROUTE
Word was received here Wednesday that Sgt. David Hinman, resident of this community, was killed when struck by a train near Chicago. Sgt. Hinman had been discharged from the armoy only a short time before his death and was on his way home at the time.
The body is being returned to the Sampson Funeral HOme in this city and funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 from the Yuba church.
Sgt. Hinman served in the Pacific for three years with the famous Red Arrow division and was released from military service Monday.
Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Josephine Sams of Williamsburg and one brother, Clifford, also of Williamsburg.
David was buried at Yuba cemetery.
