Shawandase (later given the first name of Isaac) was born in Michigan about 1800, according to the 1860 and 1870 federal census records. He may have been born later based on the ages of his children.

The first record of Isaac Shawandase is the 1839 annuity roll. He was listed as #80 Sha won day see, one man, one woman, three children, received $44.20, under Chief Koos say - Grand Traverse band.

The children would be Peter/Mway-ke-we-naw said to be born in 1830; Levi, said to be born about 1831, and Mary, born 17 Dec 1834 from her death certificate.

In 1839 Reverend Peter Dougherty, a Presbyterian minister, came to the Grand Traverse region to open a mission. First settling in the area of present day Elk Rapids in Antrim county, he later moved to what is now known as Old Mission in Grand Traverse county and built a church and school.

Isaac Shahwundase / Shoundase was baptized by Rev. Peter Dougherty in Jul 1844 at Old Mission. On 4 Jul 1844 three of Isaac's children were baptized, Mary/Mahne, 8 years (remarks; married to a Catholic by priest)

Isaac Shahwandase had daughter Mary Ann baptized on 25 Dec 1847 at Old Mission. No age was given.

The Mission was moved across Grand Traverse to what is now Omena in Leelanau county, the church and school being referred to as New Mission and Grove Hill.

Isaac's first known grandchild was Mitchell Koon, said to be born in Oct 1851, son of daughter Mary and John Coon.

Son Levi and Mary Jane had their first known child, Charlotte, in 1857.

Daughter Anna and Peter Mark Nah-we-ke-zhick had their first child, Alfred, 2 Aug 1871 in Kewadin, Antrim, Michigan.

Signed 19 Aug 1875, Isaac received the E1/2 of the SW1/4 of section 33, Township 34 North, Range 7 West, allotment from the treaty of 1855

Isaac's exact date of death is unknown, but was between August 1870 when he appears in the federal census and 1876 when his heirs sell his land.

The 1877 tax records of Hayes township, Charlevoix county, show Sha wan da sa, Isaac as owning:

Note that the name McNally was written above Isaac's and the name Whitman on the same line as the third property.

Isaac's wife Mary died between 1876 (when land was sold) and 1908 (the Durant roll was taken). She has not been found in the 1880 federal census.
