James Moby

James Moby was born after 1861 in Michigan, the son of Joseph/Kush-ka-maw-ne-say and Susan (surnname Pewami on Joseph Jr.'s social security application. Possibly related to Pewamo of the Ionia county area.)

The first record found for the family is the 1861 annuity roll. Kush-ke-maw-ne-say, one man, one woman, no children, #17, received $9.24 under Chief Pay-shaw-se-gay.

Because Kush-ka-maw-ne-say is not listed in the earlier annuity rolls this places his birth at around 1840. His age of 32 in the 1870 census places his birth at 1838.

While James was the couple's first born, his mother Susan had a daughter Polly by her first husband. Polly could have been counted under her father in the rolls.

Siblings Nancy (born about 1863) and Elizabeth (born about 1865)

The 1865 annuity roll - Kush-ka-maw-ne-say, one man, one woman, three children, #5, received $20 under Chief Pe-nay-se

The 1866 annuity roll - Kush-ka-maw-ne-say, one man, one woman, three children, #5, received $18.70 under Chief Pe-nay-se

The 1867 annuity roll - Kush-ka-maw-ne-say, one man, one woman, three children, #3, received $17.85 under Chief Pe-nay-se
