David Me naw naw quot

David Me naw naw quot was born by 1813 (age 20 by birth of first child) most likely in the northern area of what is now Antrim county.

The first record of David is the 1839 Annuity Roll:
#10 Me nah nah quot, one man, one woman, three children, received $44.20
under Chief Esh qua guen a ba

David is next found in the records of Rev. Peter Dougherty's Indian Mission Church, at what was later called Old Mission in Grand Traverse county.

On 4 Jun 1843, Menonequd was received on confession and given the name David Comfort; also on the day Tah we se qua was baptized and given the name Jane Comfort.

On 25 Jun 1843 Menonoqud had four children baptized:
Wassagezhicaqua, Eliza, age 10 [Is this Mary - born 1830-1835, did Mary not join the church, or?]
Wah bun o qua, Susan, age 8 (note states she married Wuhnuhqud in the spring of 1849)
Aish kuh be gah sing, George, age 6 (note states he died 30 Jun 1848)
Henry, age 9 months

On 18 May 1845 Menonequd had one baptized named Sidney

On 25 Dec 1847 Menonequd had one baptized named John

When Rev. Dougherty moved his church to Omena in Leelanau county, some members followed him there, others went to Antrim county, and still others to Emmet county.

Mennonoquat was among the names of the first members of the Andrew Porter Mission in Bear Creek, started in 1852.

On 7 Oct 1876 David Me none Kivad and Jane, his wife, of Bear Creek township, sold to Peter Tagwagove and Mary, his wife, of Bear Creek township, for the sum of $12 a parcel of 9 and 9/100 acres in the NE corner of the NW 1/4 of the SW 1/4 of section 6, T35N R5W, being 36 rods by 44 rods. Recorded 9 Oct 1876 in Emmet county.

about 8.43 acres, exempt on account of old age and poverty.

Me noni quod, Danl, SE1/4 of SE1/4, section 13, T34N R6W, 40 acres valued at $50, state tax 5 cents, county tax 25 cents. Exempt on all but state and county on account of poverty and infirmity. Paid 30 cents. Remark column says "I think that the NE1/4 of the SE1/4 assesed to Bow na be kwa is Menon i kwad's"




1878 Property Taxes
Menonequet, David, 19.20 acres valued at $150. State tax 15 cents, county tax 90 cents, township tax 21 cents, highway tax 26 cents, school tax $3.87, poor tax 15 cents. Total tax due $5.54, paid 31 Dec 1878.

On 18 Feb 1897 in Petoskey, Menonoquet, female, widow, age 110, died of old age in Petoskey. She is possibly Jane.

Durant only asked about three children based on David having received payment in 1870 for three children. He actually had a minimum of six children, all of whom had passed by 1908.

The first record of the name was found on the 1839 Annuity Roll - Little Traverse band under Chief Nis saw wo quot - #9 Tau guo ga na, two men, two women, no children, received $35.36 [As there are no children, are the men Peter and Louis?]
