Susan Theodore (Pego) 1894-1919

Susan Theodore was said to be born in 1894, the daughter of John Theodore and Ida Ching-gwaw-she.

Susan's parents were not married. John Charles Theodore, the son of Theodore and Sarah / Naw-baw-gaw-we-num was said to be born in 1859. Besides daughter Susan, he had a son Charles in 1882 with Marian; he had children Ben, 1884, Nelson, 1888, Maggie, 1890, James, 1893 and Paul, 1896 with Jennie Hinman; he married Jennie Antoine on 4 Apr 1903 and this couple had Louis, 1902, Harry, 1905 and Bessie, 1908.

It is uncertain when Ida Ching-gwaw-she died. The 1900 Federal Census for Ida and Susan has not been found yet.

On 10 Feb 1902 Bert Pego married Nancy Louis.

[Bert had been married to Emma Carey in 1895 and had a wife named Sopha (age 17) on the 1900 census.]

Susan was adopted by Bert Pego and his wife Nancy Louis - date unknown, but most likely between 1902 and 1904.

On 21 Aug 1904 Susan aged 9 or 10, enrolled at the Indian Industrial Boarding School in Mount Pleasant for 3 years. Her father/guardian was Bert Pego.

Pe-sko-note, dead; wife, dead. Their child, dead, then crossed out. [Grandchild] Susan Theodore or Susan Pego, see 5-62

[Since John Theodore was listed on page 59, line 27, along with three wives and seven children, the child on this page would be Ida. Since Ida is grandchild of Ching-gwaw-she either Pe-sko-note or his wife was the child of Ching-gwaw-she]

On 15 Oct 1909 in Elbridge, Oceana, Michigan, Nancy Pego died at the age of 28. Susan has lost a second mother.
