Peter Wabagog

Peter Wabagog was said to be born in 1780 [from 1860 census]

He married Angelic. They spent most of their lives in Cross Village, Emmet county, Michigan.


Son John Baptist was born about 1831.

Son Louis was born about 1834

Daughter Mary was said to be born 10 Jul 1836 in Cross Village [from death record]

Daughter Theresa was born about 1841

Son Michael was born about 1845

Daughter Catherine was born about 1847

Daughter Christine was said to be born in Apr 1849.

Daughter Mary married 24 Feb 1852 at Holy Cross Catholic Mission to Francis Assinauby (later called Tabasash).





Daughter Margaret was born Jul 1854.

While he should be listed in the 1855 annuity roll with his wife and children, Peter Wabagog has not been identified, nor have sons John and Lewis.

Land Certificate 1 Dec 1858 - John Baptist Ashebagawa and Peter Wabegog, SE 1/4 of NW 1/4 of section 2, T37N, R6W, in Emmet county, 40 acres.



Daughter Therese married Samuel Animikwaan, 22 Feb 1860 in Cross Village.

Prior to 1860 son John married Mary, daughter of John Assinabe and Theresa Momaqua.

Son-in-law Francis Tabasash enlisted in Company K, 1st Michigan Sharpshooters on 11 Jun 1863. His service and family information.

Daughter Christine married 23 Jan 1865 to John Mijawanaam [Edowagonaby] in Cross Village.

1868 annuity roll listed Pe nay se quay, 0 men, 1 woman, 2 children, received $47.55, #54 under Chief Naw we maish co tay.

1870 annuity roll listed Pe nay se quay, 0 men, 1 woman, 2 children, recived $45.90, #54 under Chief Naw we maish co tay.

On 13 Aug 1873, John B. Ashkebagawa sold the N1/2 of the SE1/4 of the NW1/4 of Section 2, T27N, R6W to Angelic Wabagog for $50. Recorded in Emmet county book E page 235.



On 25 Feb 1879, John B.Weikamp purchased from Angelique, John Baptist, Lewis, Stephen and Mrgaret Wabegag, and Therse Animikwaan (wife of Samuel) and Christine Idawegonebi (wife of John) and Mary Tabasash (wife of Francis), heirs of Peter Wabegag, the SE1/4 of the NW1/4 of Section 2, T27N, R6W for the price of $1 to each. [A total of $8] Recorded in Emmet county book H page 114.

Angelic died 18 Jul 1886 in Cross Village of old age. Her age was given as 73 (born 1813).



Son Stephen died 28 Jun 1890 in Cross Village, age 38 years, 7 months, 8 days. Parents are listed as Peter and Angelic.


Son John B. died 5 Mar 1897 in Cross Village.


Daughter Therese died 24 Nov 1897 in Cross Village.



By 1900 daughter Margaret lived with her sister Christine, who was using the surname Nashaw.

The Petoskey Evening News 20 Nov 1929 told of Margaret being very ill.



Margaret died 9 Jan 1930 in Cross Village. Her parents were listed as John Wabagog and Angeline Kenosha.
