Susan Theodore was said to be born in 1894, the daughter of John Theodore and Ida Ching-gwaw-she.
Susan's parents were not married. John Charles Theodore, the son of Theodore and Sarah / Naw-baw-gaw-we-num was said to be born in 1859. Besides daughter Susan, he had a son Charles in 1882 with Marian; he had children Ben, 1884, Nelson, 1888, Maggie, 1890, James, 1893 and Paul, 1896 with Jennie Hinman; he married Jennie Antoine on 4 Apr 1903 and this couple had Louis, 1902, Harry, 1905 and Bessie, 1908.
It is uncertain when Ida Ching-gwaw-she died. The 1900 Federal Census for Ida and Susan has not been found yet.
On 10 Feb 1902 Bert Pego married Nancy Louis.
[Bert had been married to Emma Carey in 1895 and had a wife named Sopha (age 17) on the 1900 census.]
Susan was adopted by Bert Pego and his wife Nancy Louis - date unknown, but most likely between 1902 and 1904.
On 21 Aug 1904 Susan aged 9 or 10, enrolled at the Indian Industrial Boarding School in Mount Pleasant for 3 years. Her father/guardian was Bert Pego.

While the death record of the couple's daughter Cecelia Margaret states she was born 30 Nov 1916, school records show her being born in 1913.
Susan had a daughter Joan, born about 1915 with Ira Battice [From Joan's death record]
William's WWI draft registration stated he was married with one child. [Is William counting Susan and Cecelia? Are they together or is Susan with Ira?]
Sadly, Susan died 25 Oct 1919 in Elbridge, Oceana, Michigan. She was listed as married to Ira Battice, and the daughter of John Theodore.
[A divorce record from William and a marriage record to Ira have not been found.]
Susan was buried in the Elbridge township cememtery.
Susan's daughters, Mary Bailey, Joan Battice and Cecilia Sangil were sent to Holy Childhood boarding school in Harbor Springs, first appearing the in record of 1920.
The quarter ending Dec 1920 has Mary, age 8; Joan, age 6; and Cecilia age 7.
Willilam Sauggie, 31, son of Paul Sauggie and Mary Wambindato married Susan Kequam, 38, daughter of James Keguam and Elizabeth. This was William's second marriage.

The 1940 Federal Census of Pontiac, Oakland, Michigan found Cecelia, age 23, education 2nd year of high school, at the T.B. Sanatorium.
The Oakland County Sanatorium, also known as Highland Hall was built in 1926/1927 to take care of tuberculosis patients.
