William Etaw waw caw me go / Idecomego

William Etaw waw caw me go was said to be born in 1832 in Michigan.

He was married to Madaline Odeimin. She was said to be born in 1832. Her father was probably O da e min, whose family on the 1839 annuity roll consisted of one man, one woman and six children, receiving $70.72 under chief Naw wosh coota [Naw we maish co tay] living at the Village of the Cross.

On 31 Oct 1850 E-taw-wah-kaw-me-go purchased lot 1 of block 11 in the village of Cross Village from Joseph Naw we mash kotw for the sum of $3. Recorded 12 Nov 1850, Emmet county, volume 1 pages 169-170.



Daughter Bernadine was said to be born Nov 1852

Son Daniel was born about 1856 [Possibly born before the 1855 roll]

In 1856-57 daughter Bernadine attended school at Holy Cross mission. She was listed as 3 years old, attends seldom, knows the alphabet, progress is good.



Daughter Sophia was born 6 Feb 1857. [Date from her death record. Her church marriage record says 21 Apr 1858]

Daughter Charlotte was born about Jan 1860 [It is possible that Charlotte in the 1860 census, Catherine in the 1870 census, Gertrude in the 1880 census and Elizabeth, are all the same person. A second possibility is that Charlotte died early, as Elizabeth's date of birth is given as 10 Oct 1861 on her death, and Catherine, Gertrude, and Elizabeth are the same person.]

Daughter Bernadine, 16,  was married 29 Jan 1868 in Cross Village to John B. Bewanigwad, 19. Ceremony was performed by N. L. Sifferath, Catholic missionary.


Son Benedict died 12 Feb 1868 at the age of 8 months. Cause was unknown. Parents given as William Edogamigo and Margaret Odeimin.

Wife Madaline died 19 Feb 1874 at Cross Village. Her age was 45. Cause of death was disease of brain.


Nearly everyone on the page died of cerebro spinal meningitis or disease of brain, but the only mention of the illness in Northern Michigan is in the Alpena Argus of 18 Mar 1874 saying it was in the Grand Traverse region.


William married Agatha between 1874 and 1876.

William Eta wa and Agatha sold to Samuel Morris the W1/2 of N1/2 of SE1/4, section 2, T37N R6W to Samuel Morris for $80. Signed 10 Feb 1876, recorded 2 Mar 1876, Emmet county liber D page 302. [This is 1/2 of William's 1855 allotment]

Daughter Bernadine, age 24, born in Cross Village, married Charles H. Warren, 23, born in Old Mission, sailor, on 15 Apr 1881 in Yuba, Grand Traverse, Michigan. Ceremony performed by Joh Sayler, justice of the peace. Witnesses were Joseph Taylor and Sophia Taylor.


Daughter Sophia, and Joseph Taylor, who had been married earlier by a Justice of the Peace were married in the Catholic Church on 26 Feb 1882.




Daughter Helen, 16, married 17 Aug 1882 in Cross Village to Gervasius Jorman, 22, by John B. Weikamp, Catholic Priest. [Husband's name is actually Jasper Shomin.]

 


Son Daniel Idokamigo, 28, day laborer, was married 31 Jan 1883 in Cross Village to Mary Ann Animikuaam, 21 by Bernard Alb... Catholic Priest.



William Idecomego died 19 Jan 1887 in Emmet county of consumption. He was married, age 55, and a farmer.


Daughter Elizabeth Edcamigo, 22, married 11 Sep 1888 in St. Ignace to Charles A. Ransom, 24, farmer. Her parents were given as William Edcamigo and Mary Odamin. Ceremony performed by Felix Cadeinx, justice of the peace.


Agatha Edocomego sold to Arthur Swartout for $1 the SE1/2 of lot 3 block 13 in Cross Village. Signed 28 Aug 1889, recorded 10 Jul 1890 in Emmet county liber 5 page 77.


Agatha Edocomego sold to Arthur Swartout for $20, the W1/2 of the NE1/4 of the SW1/4 of section 35, T38N R6W, 20 acres, signed 25 Oct 1889, recorded 10 Jul 1890 in Emmet county liber 5 page 78.



Son Bennet Edecomego died 24 May 1890 of alcoholism in Cross Village, aged 21 years, 5 months, 3 days, laborer, son of William and Madeline.

Daughter Sophia Taylor died 16 Feb 1917 in Cross Village. Date of birth was given as 6 Feb 1857.



Daughter Bernadine Warren died 28 Aug 1920 in Cross Village, at age 66 from heart block. Her husband Charles Warren was informant and gave her parents as William and Bernadine Williams.


Son Daniel Williams died 27 Jan 1923 in Cross Village at age 69. He was married, a laborer, son of Williams and Madeline Odemin. Cause of death was mitral insufficiency.


Daughter Anna died 9 Oct 1934 of broncho pneumonia. Birth given as 19 Mar 1866, husband as Carper Shomin, parents as William Wedomega and Madeline O'Damin.


Daughter Elizabeth Ransom died 4 Sep 1936. Her date of birth was given as 10 Oct 1861, daughter of Williams and unknown. Cause of death was acute coronary occlusion.
