Thomas / Levi O-ge-maw-ke-ge-do

O-ge-maw-ke-ge-do (many spellings) was most likely born around 1817, as he is a grown man in 1839.

Son Enos is said to be born 1840 [from 1880 census]



Rev. Peter Dougherty's school register of 1842 lists Oge-mah-ge-ge-do, age 10, entered school in 1842, knows A B Cs.  

[Who is this? Thomas was listed on the 1839 annuity roll, so at least age 21, and with an assumed wife, although she could be his widowed mother. A child born in 1832 would be counted with his parents.]










Son Moses was said to be born in 1851 [from the Durant roll] or 1853 [from the 1870 census].

Thomas Ogemahgege was baptized 20 Jun 1852 by Rev. Peter Dougherty. Son Enos / Kahmenotageza was baptized the same day.

Thomas probably married Mary Ann / Wah-sa-yah in 1853. [Her death says she was born in 1833 and married at age 20]

Son George was said to be born in 1854 [from the 1870 census].

"Aish quay go nay be was the chief of a large band that was originally located north of Torch Lake in Antrim County. The population in 1826 was 292 and was 409 in 1837. Aish quay go nay be was a deleate and signed the 1836 treaty. He, along with members of his band purchase lands prior to the 1855 treaty in Antrim County, township 29 north, 9 west. He remained chief of this band until 1868 when Tay baw se ke zhick was listed as chief on the 1868 through 1872 payments rolls. By 1855, the population of this band was 112 and Aish quay go nay be and the majority of his band selected their allotments near the lands they has purchased in Antrim County." [From Larry Wyckoff]

From the records of the New Mission church - Thomas Ogemahgegede was restored to church membership on 16 May 1869.Wife Wah sayas was received into the church the same day. 

Son Benjamin was baptized 17 May 1869 at Thomas' home. 

Thomas Ogemahgegede had the following children baptized at the New Mission Church on 30 May 1869:

Also baptized was grandson Daniel, son of Enos.

On 20 Oct 1869 a boy, son of Enos and Mary, died of diarrhea in Leelanau township. His age was given as 10 months, 6 days.  [Birth date would be 14 Dec 1868. Most likely Daniel, baptized above.]
