Last week was a very difficult time for the family of Ivan Miller, who was buried Friday morning. Ivan was 17 when he enlisted in the Navy. He was on ships twice torpedoed on the North Atlantic seas during nearly four years of service during World War II. The Mass was said by Fr. Barrett of St. Mary's Church. The flag draped coffin was borne by six Indian veterans of the area and the native American flay was carried by another veteran. It was a sad farewell to an Indian war veteran, minus official participation by any veterans organization.
Mrs. Florence Hill arrived last week from Chicago to be with her mother, Susan Miller, and family for the wakes and funeral of brother, Ivan. She left Sunday. Another sister, Irene Otto, flew in from Florida to Grand Rapids, then accompanied her daughter, Susan Martell and family, from Wyoming. Irene is still with mother this week. Others coming from out of town were Randy Miller and family from South Haven and Archie Mill of Hastings.
Mrs. Isabel Dembinski and son of Akron were visitors of relatives in the area Thurday and attended the Miller funeral. Isabel is one of the sisters of the late Archie Miller, Sr., and a sister-in-law of Susan Miller. She also visited her cousin, Don Agosa, at Leelanau Memorial Hospital.
Susan died 2 Nov 1986 in Northport, Leelanau, Michigan and was buried at the church cemetery in Peshawbestown.
Son Archie died 7 Feb 1994 in Traverse City, Grand Traverse, Michigan. He was buried at the church cemetery in Peshawbestown.
