William Gibson/Mary Kosequat

William Gibson was the son of Me-zhaw-gaw and Frances Nug-shaw-gaw. William was said to be born on 20 Apr 1859 on his death certificate, 1862 on the Durant Roll and July 1864 on the 1900 census,  He joined older siblings Francis and Susan. Sister Josie was said to be born c1870.

Between 1900 and 1908 William and Mary separated, with Mary raising the children.


Daughter Theresa, 18, was married to Jasper Gauen, 23, son of Mitchell, on 12 Dec 1903 in Cross Village. Ceremony was performed by ---- priest. Witnesses were Titus Koseynod and Hattie Gibson. [Groom was actually Jasper Assineway]



Grandson Simon Assineway was born 18 Jul 1904. Sadly baby died 19 Jul 1904, cause unknown. No burial site given.

William and Mary reunited briefly, as son Paul was born 2 May 1910. 


Catherine King, the daughter of Francis King and Mary Kosequat, was born 8 Sep 1912 in Friendship township, Emmet, Michigan.


Daughter Ida, 20, was married to Peter Kanabkittens, 37, son of Jno (John) Kanabkittens and Mary, on 3 Nov 1913 in Petoskey. Ceremony was performed by Edward E. Gilbert, Judge of Probate. Witnesses were Fred D. Ely and David Paul. [Groom was also called Peter Kenwabikise and Peter John]


Son-in-law, Jasper Assineway, died 29 Jun 1913, in Readmond, Emmet, Michigan. His age was given as 32, parents as Mitchell Assineway and Elosie Kagma [Kiogima]. Cause of death was lobar pneumonia, burial in Middle Village.



Daughter Cecil, 18, married Thomas Fournier, 22, son of Onisime Fournier, on 13 Mar 1918 in Sault Ste. Marie. Ceremony was performed by Stephen H. Alling, rector at St. James Church. Witnesses were Margaret Alling and Elizabeth C. Spence of Sault Ste. Marie.




Daughter Agnes Katherine, 19, married John Nall Lasley, 25, son of Louis Lasley and ---Robinson, on 14 Aug 1918 in Good Heart. Ceremony was performed by George W. Dunkley, Justice of the Peace. Witnesses were Albert Miller and Lizzie Dunhley(?)

On 22 Jun 1925 in Sault Ste. Marie, daughter Hattie Gibson, 36, married Francis W. Belleau, 30, son of Frank Belleau and Angeline Kask. Hattie says it's her first marriage. Ceremony was performed by John A. McMahon, Justice of the Peace. Witnesses were John Belleau and Mary Hudson of Sault Ste. Marie



Mary's daughter, Katherine King, 16, married Guss Kiogima, 24, son of Pian Kiogima and Marion Wasson, on 15 Jun 1927 in Middle Village, Emmet, Michigan. Ceremony was performed by Rev. Arnold Schwarz, O. F. M., Catholic Indian Missionary. Witnesses were James Cooper and Susie Kiogima of Harbor Springs.



On 9 Nov 1927 daughter Ida was divorced from Peter Kanabkitters, also known as Peter John.



Daughter Ida (Lida Kanabkitters), 30, married once before, married Sam Evans, 44, son of Evans and Ester Kenoshmeg, on 16 May 1928 in Middle Village. Ceremony performed by Rev. Aubert Kenter O.F.M. Catholic Priest. Witnesses were Martin and Rose King of Middle Village.

Daughter Theresa, 47, married Peter Shocko, 34, son of Simon Shocko and Lucy Nagonaby. on 11 Aug 1933 in Mancelona, Antrim, Michigan. It was the second marriage for both. Ceremony was performed by Daniel L. Reedy, minister. Witnesses were Mrs. Grace Reedy and Verna Reedy of Mancelona.


Peter Shocko, husband of daughter Theresa, died 27 Feb 1934 in Rapid River, Kalkaska, Michigan. His birthdate was given as 10 Jan 1900, parents as Simon Shocko and Lucy Maskei. Cause of death was plusible poisoning - drank denatured alcohol. Burial was in Mancelona.



Daughter Theresa died 25 Dec 1937 in Mancelona, Antrim, Michigan. She was widowed, age 55. Cause of death was acute alcoholism and exposure. Burial was at Goodhart, informant John Sineway [her son]


William died 26 Dec 1937 in Petoskey, Emmet, Michigan. Name was given as William Michigan. He was widowed, wife given as Mary Michigan, birth given as 20 Apr 1859. Cause of death was found dead on the floor from alchol poison. Burial was at St. Francis Cemetery. Informant was Frank Michigan [brother]


William's sister, Susan Madawagon, also died on 26 Dec 1937 in Petoskey. She was married to John Madawagon, birthdate given as 18 Sep 1857. Cause of death was found dead on the floor from alchol poison. Burial was at St. Francis Cemetery. Informant was Frank Michigan [brother]

On 16 Oct 1940, son Paul registered for the draft. He gave his birthdate as 2 May 1910 in Goodhart. Person who was know his address, wife Rachel. Employer was Michigan Maple Block Corp. of St. Ignace. Paul was described as 5' 11 1/2", 149 lbs, brown eyes, black hair, light brown complexion.





Daughter Hattie Hudson, died 12 Mar 1947 in Sault Ste. Marie, Chippewa, Michigan. She was married to Frank Hudson, birthdate given as 14 Apr 1890.  Cause of death was mali---of --- probably stomach. Burial was at Riverside cemetery in Sault Ste. Marie. Informant was her son William Hudson.

Son Paul signed an employee registration on 2 Apr 1948. He was living in Chicago, Illinois, gave his birth as 2 May 1910 in Petoskey, Emmet, Michigan, son of William Gibson and Mary Kosquat. Present employer was C & NW Ry Co. [railway company]. Place of present employment LaMoille, Iowa. 


Son Basil died 25 Apr 1948 in Petoskey, Emmet, Michigan. He was single, birthdate given as 12 May 1902. Cause of death was carcinoma of rectum with metastasis. Burial was at Good Hart. Informant was his sister, Mrs. Agnes Lasley.
