Peter Beaver / Paw-zhe-daw-naw-quot

Paw-zhe-daw-naw-quot (later called Peter Beaver) was born by 1828 in Michigan, most likely on Beaver Island.

Beaver Island band, "at the time of the 1836 treaty, was located on the norther tip of Beaver Island. Before the treaty of 1855, this band moved their village to High Island and Garden Island. The chief of this band in 1836 was Kin waw be kissee or Kay nwaw be kisse. The population of this band in 1836 war 105 individuals. By the time of the 1855 treaty the population near doubled to 205. He remained the chief of this band until 1856 when he was replaced by Pay zick way we dug, who continued as chief into the 1870s. This band was paid under various groups: Mackinac, Little Traverse and Garden Island."

"Kay nwaw be kisse and twelve of his band purchased lands on Garden Island prior to the 1855 treaty. The majority of this band took their allotments on Garden Island and High Island..." [From Larry Wyckoff]

  2. Miigwech for posting this Vicki. I can confirm that Julia Beaver had at least one child with a Basil Nadeau/Nedeau/Neddo. His name was Joseph Nedeau and he would be my GG Grandfather. Joseph had 4 children with two different wives. He was Married to a Harriet Gould who I believe was 1/2 Anishinaabe. Somewhere in Delta County I'm just not certain where. They had a child named Alfred Neddow 1898-1976. He was born in Delta County and passed away in 1976 in Schoolcraft County.

He ended up with Annie Macabee again sometime after 1912 or so (Must be after Annie's second husband Sam Boursaw passed away) and they in turn had 3 more children My GG Aunt Caroline "Carrie" Nedeau 1919-1970 she was married to a Stephen Mejaki in 1937, but that is all the info I have. No known children. Edgar Nedeau (My Great Grandfather) was married twice but only had children with Louella Hardwick. 6 to be exact. And Doris Nedeau was also married two times. Her first husband was Henry "Mickey" Feathers and she had 3 kids with him that I know of. Then Earl Klabbots. She had 4 with him, but only 2 I think are still living.

Hi Derek! I just wanted a few corrections. My grandmother is Doris. Her first husband was Henry Jacob Feathers whom she had five children with including Arlene, Richard, Judith, David and Mark. After her divorce to Henry, she remarried to Earl Henry Clabots and had four children including Glenn, Brenda, Laura and Rhea. My mother is Rhea. Glenn and Laura are still alive. Arlene, Judith and Brenda are Doris’s only children to have passed, that I know of.

  3. I would love to know who the 12 were who purchased the land. This is very helpful since I had a paper that honored Mr. Beaver as their postmaster . My great grandmother kept in her papers. . ...miigwitch for sharing.
