 She maw gaw was born before 1834 [Old enough to receive land in 1855]

"Shaw gwaw baw no’s Band - Sometime around 1850 a number of members from Caub mo say’s Flat River band moved further up the Flat River into Montcalm County. They purchased lands in Douglass
Township and formed a new band under Chief Shaw gwaw baw no. In 1853 there were 84
members in this band which increased to 129 in 1855. He was listed as the chief of this band in
1865 and in 1866, Aish ke baw gosh was the new chief and was still listed as chief in 1872. This

Son Louis, 23, farmer, son of John King and unknown was married to Mary Ahke, 22, daughter of William Ahke and Jennie Francis on 22 Oct 1906 in Peshawbestown. Ceremony performed by Edwin Hudson, priest. Witnesses were Andrew Petwadin and Marceline Francis.


Son Philip, 25, parents not named, was married to Julia Nokquman, 34, daughter of  Aaron Pequongay  and Susan Allen on 23 Dec 1907 in Leland. It was her second marriage. Ceremony performed by W.C. Nelson, justice of the peace.



[Julia was first married to David Naquam/Naquoum on 17 Apr 1894 in Northport. Her son, Perry John King, was born 27 Aug 1903 in Omena. This is before her marriage to Philip King, but after her separation from David Naquom, David was listed as single on the 1900 census and by 1903 was having children with Agatha Nanego.]

Philip's son William was born 4 Mar 1908 and died 24 Mar 1908. Baby's grandfather, Aaron Pequongay was the informant on the record, and gave himself and his wife as William's parents.

Baby boy King died 11 Apr 1912 and was buried in Omena/Hillcrest Cemetery

Philip's daughter Eveline Eva was born 28 Jun 1915. She died 23 Jul 1915.



Philip's unnamed son was stillborn 18 Apr 1916.




Louis' daughter Gertrude was said to be born 16 Nov 1916.

12 Sep 1918 Philip and Louis registered for the draft in Charlevoix county. Philip gave his birth as 8 Sep 1881, wife as Julia, medium height and build, brown eyes, black hair. Louis gave his birth as 5 Jul 1884, wife as Sophia, medium height and build, brown eyes, black hair.

Both brothers work at the East Jordan Furnace Company.







Louis died between 1918 (draft registration) and 1920 (Sophia was listed as widow on the census.)

Philip's son Charles Edward died 20 Aug 1920 in Traverse City, Grand Traverse, Michigan.

He is buried in Omena/Hillcrest Cemetery.


Philip died 14 Apr 1927 in Fredric, Crawford, Michigan. His birth was given as 30 Sep 1880, father as Joseph King.



Philip was buried in Omena/Hillcrest Cemetery - note birth was given as 31 Sep 1887.
