Jacob Tay-baw-saw


Jacob Tay-baw-saw was born about 1817 in Michigan. He married Theresa Blackman, daughter of John Blackman and Mary Nanegos (names from her death record).

Their first known child was Louis said to be born 12 Nov 1838. [Date from his death certificate]

Daughter Mary Ann was born about 1845.

Son Andrew was said to be born 26 May 1852 in Old Mission, Grand Traverse, Michigan. He was baptized 19 Jul 1855 at Immaculate Conception Catholic church in Peshawbestown, with his birth given as 1849.



A second daughter, also named Mary, was baptized in 1853 at Immaculate Conception Catholic church in Peshawbestown, with her age given as 4 months.

Daughter Angelica was born 28 Jan 1862, baptized 2 Feb 1862 at Immaculate Conception Catholic church in Peshawbestown.



Son Lewis Mejhigwen, age 25, married 16 Aug 1864 at Immaculate Conception Catholic church in Peshawbestown to Margarith Bourassa, age 17, daughter of Francis Bourassa and Katherine.

Also recorded on 21 May 1881 is a warranty deed from Jacob Tay baw saw and Theresia, his wife, selling to William Reincke, 40 acres, NW1/4 of the NE1/4 of section 9, T29N R11W [Bingham township], for the sum of $320.

at Immaculate Conception Catholic church in Peshawbestown.





Son Louis died 15 Dec 1882 at age 44 years, 1 month, 3 days of consumption.

Warranty Deed recorded 5 Feb 1884, Jacob Tabasaw and wife sold to Francis W. Wabnimke, a parcel of 1/2 acre, part of lot 2 of lot 4 in section 2, T30N R11W [Suttons Bay township] for the sum of $15.


Three Leelanau county land records were signed 3 Jul 1885, recorded 21 Apr 1886. The first in vol. 15 page 180, a quit claim deed from Jacob Tabeesachi and wife to Mary Tebsaw, for a lot in NW corner of lot our (sic) of lot four, section 2, T30N R11W, for the sum of $10


The second in vol. 15 page 181, a quit claim deed from Jacob Tabeesachi and wife to Andrew Tabsaw for 1/2 acre in the Village of Peshawbestown, for the sum of $5.


The third  vol. 15 page 182, a quit claim deed from Jacob Tabeesachi and wife to Sophia Tebsaw,
for a lot in NW corner of lot our (sic) of lot four, section 2, T30N R11W, for the sum of $10




Daughter Sophia died 14 Feb 1888 in Peshawbestown. Cause of death was unknown. Her age was given as 23 years, 2 months, 3 days.



Son Andrew died 2 Jun 1890, cause of death inflamation of lungs, age 38 years 7 days, born Old Mission, farmer. His daughter Jane died 9 Apr 1890 at age 4 years 27 days.

The deed index of Leelanau County shows Jacob Tapesaw to Thenra Tabesaw, liber 24, page 87, section 3 T30N R11W  lot 2 NE1/4 of the NE1/4, dated 1896. [Since Jacob has already passed perhaps this is a transfer of the land into Theresa's name.]
