Mary Menomimkwe Tabasaw

Mary Ann Menomimkwe was born about 1845, the daughter of  Jacob Tay-baw-saw and Theresa Blackman.

She joined older brother Louis born 12 Nov 1838.

Siblings Andrew (born 26 May 1852), Mary Ann (born 1854), Francis (born 1857) and Margaret (born 16 Dec 1858) joined the family.

On 26 Aug 1861 in Eagletown, Leelanau county, Maryanna Menomimkwe, 16, of Eagletown, married Francis Saganakwadon, 18, of Cross Village. Ceremony performed by Ignatius Mrak, Catholic priest.



Son Joseph was born 21 Aug 1862, baptized 26 Aug 1862 at Immaculate Conception church in Eagletown. Record states family lived in Cross Village.


Husband Francis died between 1862 and 1870.

On the 1870 Federal Census Mary Ann is living with her parents in Leelanau county.

On 20 Jun 1871, Maria Ann Mewominkew Saganakiradon, widow, age 26, born Eagletown, Leelanau county, married Benjamin Nadowegmessu, age 21, born Cross Village, day laborer in Cross Village. Ceremony performed by John B. Weikamp, Catholic priest.



Daughter Sarah born 9 Jan 1872 in Cross Village. Her name was recorded as Susanna Nodwagwasan.



Daughter Anastasia was born 20 Dec 1874. Her name was recorded as Anistacia Nodioagwasaw.  Sadly she died 24 Jan 1875.



Daughter Angeline was born 5 Jan 1876 in Cross Village. Her name was recorded as Angelique Nadowegwessa.



Son Peter was born 9 Feb 1879 in Cross Village. His name was recorded as Peter Nodwagwasaw.



The 1880 Federal Census has not been found.

Son George born 7 Feb 1882 in Cross Village. His name was recorded as George Natwegwesa.


Daughter Philamon was born 9 Oct 1884 in Cross Village. Her name was recorded as Philomen Nodgwasaw.


Husband Benjamin died 22 Jan 1886 in Cross Village, Emmet county. Cause of death was an accident, age 36 years 5 months, parents Sebastian and Louisa.


Daughter Sarah, age 18 was married 15 Jan 1891 to Joseph, age 20, Francis Kenotego and Catherine Mitchell. Ceremony was performed by Servatinis Altwicks, Catholic Priest, in Harbor Springs.

Son Joseph was married on 2 Feb 1892 to Sarah Shomin in Cross Village. He was 29, born Traverse City, son of Paul Saganakwado and Mary A. Tabosash, his second marriage. Sarah was 27, born Cross Village, daughter of Amab Shomin and Mary Kinese, her first marriage. Ceremony was performed by Bernardinus Abbink, Catholic Priest.



Daughter Angeline, 17, was married to Bonfiace Trosho, 22, on 3 Sep 1894 in Peshawbestown by Bruno Torka, priest.

1900 Federal Census had not been found

Son Peter Agowise, 21, was married 2 Nov 1902 in Peshawbestown to Susan Wabinimki, 20, daughter of Joe. Ceremony performed by Bruno Torka, priest


Son-in-law Boniface Trosho died 22 Apr 1906 in Star Township, Antrim county. Cause of death was run over by cars on GR & I Rail road near Alba station.



Daughter Angeline, 31,  married on 18 Nov 1907 in Peshawbestown to William Anewishky, 32. Ceremony performed by Fr. Edwin Hudson, Catholic Priest. It was the second marriage for both.


Daughter Philamon met Charles Henry Warren Jr, in about 1902. While no marriage has been found, the couple had two children, Cecilia in 1903 and Benjamin in 1907

Daughter Philamon (Filermin Nadowisa), 21,  married Joseph Meongwa , 28, son of Joe, on 21 Sep 1908 in Cross Village. Each said it was their first marriage.

Mary Ann died 12 Nov 1921 in Cross Village, Emmet county. Cause of death was disease caused by fall. Informant was George Agowise, burial in Cross Village.



Mary's children:

Daughter Philamon died 22 Feb 1939.


Son Joseph died 13 Mar 1939 in Cross Village, Emmet county. His parents are listed as Frank Saganakwado and Maryan Nadawagwasa.

Son Peter died 30 Mar 1951 in Emmet. His obituary appeared in the Northern Michigan Review 5 Apr 1951.



Son George died 7 Apr 1953 in Emmet county. His obituary was printed in the Petoskey Evening News 8 Apr 1953



Daughter Sarah died 10 May 1961 in Harbor Springs.
