Solomon L. Francis was born 2 Jun 1904 in Middle Village (Good Hart), Emmet, Michigan. He was the son of Joseph Francis and Sarah Nadowegwessa. Sarah was born 9 Jun 1872 in Cross Village, Emmet, Michigan, the daughter of Benjamin Nadowegwessa and Mary Ann Tebasaw. [Benjamin was the son of Sebastian Nadowegwessa. Mary Ann was the daughter of Jacob Tabawsaw, granddaughter of John Blackman.]

While his birth was not recorded in 1904, Solomon did have a delayed birth registration issued 23 Jan 1953. To get a delayed birth record an affidavit was submitted by a person (usually a relative or midwife) who was born prior and was present or knowledgeable of the requesting person's birth.
When Solomon was only 4 years old his father risked his life to save others.

Solomon registered for the draft on 16 Oct 1940 in Harbor Springs. He gave his birth date as 2 Jun 1905 in Good Hart. Solomon was described as 5 foot 9 inches tall, 136 lbs, brown hair and black eyes.
