Madeline Ance 1875-1946

Madeline was born 13 Mar 1875 in Eagletown (now called Peshawbestown) Leelanau county Michigan, the daughter of Peter  Naokwechkam (Ance) and Marie Tibagijigokwe (Windigowish). 

She was baptized (as Magdalene) on 27 May 1875 at St. Mary's Mission/Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Eagletown, pictured above. [Note that the names Ance, Anse and Ens had been added to the record at a later date.]


She joined older siblings Simon (born 8 Nov 1858, baptized 8 Jul 1858); Peter (born 4 Jul 1861, baptized 8 Jul 1861); Marianna (born 12 Jul 1862, baptized 27 Jul 1862); Philomena (born 17 Nov 1865, baptized 19 Nov 1965); Joseph (born 2 Mar 1869); and twins Casper and Michael/Mitchell (born 1 Mar 1872).

Sister Bernardine was born 18 Nov 1877

Sister Mary Ann, age 19, married Mitchell Parrow [mistakenly called Ance by clerk], age 30, on 26 Jun 1881 in Peshawbestown.


Brother John was born 15 Apr 1882.


Brother Simon was married on 30 Oct 1883 to Angeline Chippewa.




Grandfather John B. Ance died 13 May 1885 of old age at 82 years.



Sister Bernardine died 30 Apr 1888 of unknown causes. Her age was given as 9 years, 6 months, 3 days.



Sister Louisa was born 11 Jun 1888

Sister Philomena, 23, married Leo Francis, 32, on 6 Jun 1889 in Elk Rapids.


On 18 Oct 1892 Madeline was married to Francis Yanot, son of Joseph Yanot and Mary Theresa Wayashe. 



Her marriage was also recorded in the records of Immaculate Conception Church in Eagletown as 4 Oct 1892.

Daughter Jennie was said to be born 23 Dec 1893 in Suttons Bay, Leelanau, Michigan [Record not yet located.]

Son Silas was said to be born 29 Jan 1895. [Record not yet located.]

Grandmother Susan died 10 Apr 1895, age 74, of consumption. Grandfather Dominic Windigowish died 28 Jun 1895, age 76, of paralysis.


Brother Mitchell married Julia Oliver on 4 Nov 1895 in Peshawbestown.


Daughter Helena / Lena was born 28 Mar 1897



Father Peter died 3 Feb 1899 of pneumonia. His age was given as 62 years 5 months. Burial in Peshawbestown.

Josephine died 1 Oct 1902 in Peshawbestown of pneumonia. Her age was given as 3 years 6 months, 15 days.


Brother Joseph died 25 Feb 1904 in Garfield township, Grand Traverse. Cause of death was "That the deceased, Joe Ance, came to his death from exposure and freezing to death in the field of Peter Bickle."


Coroner's report dated 26 Feb 1904


Grand Traverse Evening Record of 26 Feb 1904 told of Joe's death.

Brother Mitchell died 7 Jul 1909 in Suttons Bay. Cause was tuberculosis complicated by diabetes.

Brother John was married to Margaret Koon on 22 May 1911 in Peshawbestown.



Daughter Jennie, 21, married Royal Bennett, 20, on 18 Mary 1915 in Suttons Bay. Ceremony performed by Marcus Hoyt, Justice of the Peace, with R.E. Hughs and Madeline Yannott as witnesses.



Future husband Ole Pabo registered for the draft on 5 Jun 1917 in Suttons Bay. He gave his birth as 20 Jun 1889, and was described as medium height and build, black hair and eyes.



Mother Mary Ance died 28 Feb 1918 of pneumonia.



Son Silas registered for the draft on 5 Jun 1918 in Leland. He gave his birth as 27 Jan 1897, described as medium height and build, with brown eyes and black hair.

Husband Frank Yannott died 6 Mar 1920 in Suttons Bay


Madeline, 40,  married Ole Pabo, 30, farmer, son of Jake Pabo and Elizabeth Brown on 16 Nov 1920 in Peshawbestown. Ceremony performed by Rev. Dorotheus Philip.






Brother Simon died 17 Nov 1921 in Suttons Bay township. Cause of death was gangrene of leg caused by diabetes. He was buried in Peshawbestown.



Sister Mary Ann Parrow died 1 Apr 1924. Cause of death carcinoma of breast. Burial was in Peshawbestown.



Son Silas, 31, was married 29 Jul 1926 in Peshawbestown to Jessie Ahka, 18, daughter of William Ahka and Jennie Petwadon.




Husband Ole Pabo died 27 Aug 1927 of phenal poisoning. He was ill 7 days with his death being ruled a suicide.
